Being and Becoming (Part 1 of 2): We All Came from Somewhere and Someone

Love is our true destiny. We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone - we find it with another.
— Thomas Merton

We become who we are because of people around us.

No human is an island. We all came from somewhere and someone. We are contingent beings who came into this world because of others, grow, learn and benefit from our interactions with others. We are and become in relationship to others.

In my life, I've got a long list of amazing people who have invested time, energy, their presence, and resources to see me grow. People who saw my potential. People who wanted what is best for me. People who believed in me, in my dreams, in my purpose. Teachers who met with me one-on-one. Parents who gave life to me and as an adult have opened up their home to me and my family. A boss who is a friend, a mentor, a supporter of my work and a daily source of inspiration. This brief list is hardly complete, but the point is becoming clear to me: I am being and becoming who I want to be with thanks due to these amazing human beings.

Your mission today, should you choose to accept it: Thank three people who have deeply invested in you and impacted your life for good. Parents, friends and family, mentors, colleagues, bosses. Pick three and call them. Tell them how much of an impact they have had in your life and see what happens.
