Mind-Map: Personal Mission
Pull out your scratch paper or journal if you can for a few moments.
I want to do a brief mind-mapping exercise around what we might call "personal mission." We could label your purpose as the WHY of who you are and what you do, and your mission as the HOW you live that purpose. With that definition in mind...
Draw a Venn (Ben) diagram. Label the circles: INTERESTS, SKILLS, and TALENTS.
Interests are where you have passion, goals, hobbies, etc. Skills are cultivated by practice through work, study or trial and error. Talents are things you are intrinsically good at and ways you just show up.
With as many as come to mind, FILL those circles with each! In the overlapping portions, you can fill the different sections with activities, projects, and pursuits that you see are available to you.
What does this impact?
Well, a few things.
- You have the opportunity to AUDIT your existing work and activities and see how you are (or aren't!) practicing your purpose.
- If you haven't yet cultivated an intentional sense of mission, how you are consciously choosing to inhabit the world around you, you can begin to craft that!
- You are able to connect dots in new ways to see if something new becomes available to you!
Happy mind-mapping! Let me know what you gain from this exercise!
